Survivor IX
From TaikaiWiki
Survivor IX: The Path of Fate was a main tournament Luna held from December 26, 2002, to January 3, 2003, on the Random Insanity forums. The sponsored characters, hailing from a pool comprised of the games made by Squaresoft, Enix/Tri-Ace, and Game Arts (this was before the Square/Enix merger became final), were invited to participate by Elysia D'Orshavian. Elysia, doing a favor for her friend Dahlia di Ricia, offered the sponsors the chance to alter their fate should they be victorious. Complications arose when Elysia's sometime friend, sometime foe Ashira Minari showed up to throw a monkey wrench in the machinery, while also holding a secret over the head of her brother Zeran, who happened to be Elysia's lover. Ashira briefly managed to take control of the tournament at the end of the fourth round, but it was reclaimed by Elysia just before the finals. In the finals, Dahlia, Elysia, and Ashira faced off with Dias Flac, Lucca Ashtear, and Algus Sadalfas, respectively. Algus, portrayed by Kellios, was the victor in the end. The tournament also marked the return of the Survivor name, absent since the crash of Final Fantasy Online during Survivor VI forced a restart of the tournament, which host Alexander Krizak did under the then-new Rurouni Taikai name.

Continuity
Survivor IX: The Path of Fate technically occurred within the Eternal Multiverse, as it allowed participants to use characters from prior tournaments as well as use their characters again in future Eternal-related tournaments. However, the story did not involve any of the Eternals or use any Eternal-related locations for the rounds that took place in original locations. It instead utilized areas from Erynmere, the fictional world created by Luna specifically for the tournament (though she has used it since in other projects).
Battle System
Survivor IX: The Path of Fate used the Growth of Power system, which combined the EX-Type class system that originated in Survivor IV with a magic and ability system based on the magic/ability system of the Game Arts RPG Grandia II. Sponsors chose their EX-Type based on their characterization of their sponsored characters, the Types being Noble, Rogue, Shadow, and Dark. Each character started out with the same pool of Spells and Special Abilities, and through public voting, earned Magic Coins and Special Coins with which they could strengthen whatever spells or special abilities they wanted, provided they had the required amount.
